Tit for Tat

I am lying in bed idly. A few random thoughts rule my head. I don’t remember putting the lights out. I begin to fidget with the switch of my bedside lamp. *click* On.  *click* Off.  Repeat. My phone beeps. It’s him. Hi . My heart races exceptionally fast; it might as well give Usain Bolt a run for his money. Oh, no. I am just exaggerating here. It’s the first time in days that he’s bothered to text me. We talk sometimes. No. I talk. Always. He just listens. Sometimes, he speaks.  But, he never talks.  I don’t reply immediately. I take my own sweet time to type out a text. Two minutes later my thumb hovers over the send button.  Damn, that will look desperate. I retype Hi at least 7 times, using different textual tones each time. (What are textual tones, anyway? We don’t know but we still know, right?!) After   twenty minutes of contemplation whether to punctuate using a full stop or an exclamation mark, I hit send. Hi. :) The conversati...

..I Let Him Go

Tonight is no different.   I twist and turn in bed like every other night.   The events of the day run a recap through my subconscious mind.   Nothing special. I twist and turn as grief takes over. One quiet sob. And another. And another. Before I know it, my sister is awake, holding me tight, asking me what's wrong. She's 15. How is she supposed to understand the so-called problems of adulthood? What do I explain her?   So she just holds me close while I cry the heck out of me.   It's not the kind of crying that babies do. It's not the cry for milk or for a toy or for a video game, nor is it for a dress or a party.   It's over a guy. A lost love.   No, he wasn't my boyfriend and he never could be. There are more kinds of love that can blossom between a guy and a girl, than you think. This was one of those different kinds.   Simply because we were different - together and individually. I don't know why I cry over him but I ...

Welcome to Friend-Zone!

The new zone in town, have you heard about it? Well, I'm sure you have. Got an idea what I'm talking about? The Friend-zone! Does it ring a bell? Only if you tell me that you've never been there or done that, I can understand that it could well be an alien zone. For those who have been a victim or victimized others, you must have a clear picture of what it feels like to be friend-zoned or to friend-zone someone, respectively. A sweet slap, that's how it feels. Ouch! It hurt. As much as I have observed, there are two common cases of people ending up in the friend-zone. You won't be surprised to know! One, where someone asks the other out and is rejected for the reason that I-never-imagined-us-like-that-and-we're-just-good-friends. This is the scenario where you can't see yourself being asked out by someone who you thought was good enough to be the 'friend in need' but never the 'friend in bed'. But, know what? Karma is coming after y...

My First Year of College

First, let me take a deep breath. Whoa! It's been one year since college began and although, it hasn't been as exciting as it looks from the outside, it's not been that bad, either. Infact, It's not even half bad. So, I'm a student of DU who was enrolled under the hastily introduced FYUP which would hold a rather debatable expansion; Four Year Undergraduate Programme or F*ck Yourself Undergraduate Programme. But, let's leave it to that. The termination of this new system came as hurriedly as its implementation, and so we are back to being students of the Three Year Undergraduate Programme.                                    Anyhow, apart from being treated as the official guinea pigs by the Great Indian Education System, there has been a lot to it. Basically, I'm going to talk of how my first year of college has been like. You may or may not exactly relate to it since it is an entirely pers...

Bring back the smile

Teach me how to smile.  When all else fails and nothing seems right, all I want is that one person to come up to me, do whatever it takes and bring my smile back.  Amidst all the hassles of this modern living, we forget to smile, let alone have a good hearty laugh. It may be the busy schedules and long working hours but I'm sure none of us worked too hard to get that curve straight.  We grieve over little issues, knowingly or unknowingly make ourselves the victims of depression and let stress be synonymous with life but hey, you're alive.  Sometimes, we become so accustomed to the sad side of us that we forget the last time we were even close to happy. I know, things go wrong, we all screw up but that's not a reason to stop being happy. We can learn to smile, again.  How much I miss that person who could make me laugh at the lamest joke on earth and make me smile through the tears. It were those carefree and problem-free days that I wish I had some more. But you...

Let's become Strangers

In the unknown hour  Close, not too far You smiled your best  I forgot the rest All the love I ever had I spent on you, my bad I struggle to hold on  But I better be gone  Things begin to change  Hell, does it seem strange.  A coldness falls upon me It's not something I be  Soon, It'll be like before  When You'll matter no more  Like strangers we started  It's time now we parted  So let's mark the end  After all, I was just another friend.

Types of Friends

My friends, you're the inspiration behind this post. Some of you might as well relate to it, since this has to do with the various types of friends one has (usually).  Read on to find out if you have any of the following on your friend list!  1. Daily dose The exact type of friend who you talk to on a daily basis. Day in and day out. They may or may not be your best friends but are sure to buzz you each day without fail, and vice versa.  They will know when you wake up and when you sleep, probably because they are the first and last person you talk to after you're up and before you're asleep, respectively. It goes without saying that they are there when you need them and your day is incomplete without a chat with them. Simply put, you can't even go 24 hours without talking to them. Period.  2. The let's-meet-up friend  He or she might not talk to you often enough but whenever you do talk, you always end up with "Milte hain na yaar" and "Chal iss week,...

An ode to ex-friends

" Things change. And friends leave. Life doesn't stop for anybody."  This famous quote from the book, 'The perks of being a wallflower' dwells on the realistic idea of living a life. A happy life.  Most part of the saying is correct but I guess you shall all agree that even though friends leave, they leave an impression on our hearts and lives.  We are influenced by each person we meet during our lifespan. We are a bit of every person that we come across.  School, college, jobs, offices; we have friends everywhere. At an early age of 18 years, we are most affected by our peers. In ways that are good or bad.  It is a common scenario in schools these days, to see girls and boys fighting over meagre issues like Facebook posts, calls, messages, etc.  Take this example from pre-school days-  Kid: Ma'am, she stole my crayons. She's a thief.  Teacher: Maria, return her crayons right away.  ** 10 years later** Student: Ma'am, she stole my boyfriend. ...
